Cheer Mats

Cheer mats are becoming extremely popular as cheerleading becomes more extreme with routines containing many gymnast maneuvers.  It is not uncommon for entire squads to participate in flips, turns and tumbles that may be dangerous if a problem occurs.  Mats assist cheerleaders in properly executing difficult maneuvers and they also help with safety.  Cheerleading pyramids are extremely common and can end badly if one mistake occurs during the execution.  With a mat there is less fear that a cheerleader will be badly hurt in they are dropped or fall out of a movement.  Cheer mats can help prevent sprained or even broken wrists and ankles as well as other bones that may be broken after a fall.  They also provide stability to the cheerleaders foot as they begin to execute their maneuver.  With a mat there should be no worry about cheerleaders slipping or sliding as they begin a difficult flip or tumble.  Mats also decrease the shock that occurs on the sole of the foot as cheerleader jump up and down in routines. 

Many cheer squads have begun to purchase mats that are portable so they can be used for all performances.  They can be easily rolled or folded and carried in mat cases for easy transportation.  Many mats are durable and can be used for both indoor and outdoor performances.  You can also purchase mats in an array of different colors.  Many squads do not want the mat to detract from their performance and so they purchase mats that match the colors of their uniforms, or even just plain black. 

In addition to cheer mats there are other things that squads can purchase to ensure the safety of their cheerleaders.  Braces are often only used after an injury but they can be extremely beneficial before an injury.  They help your limbs function correctly without turning in straining positions.  You can also purchase shoes that provide the feet and ankles with maximum support.  The safety of cheerleaders is extremely important and squads should take every precaution to ensure the safety of their members.
